FAQ

Every year we send 4 missions trained adult volunteers who will oversee the trip logistics, preparation, and help equip your student to be ready to travel to the Dominican. While in the Dominican Republic we will be staying with a host couple and daily working with the Makarios staff of teachers, interns, and administrators.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends checking with your doctor about routine vaccines and potentially getting a vaccine for Hepatitis A and typhoid. These are subject to change. Please check https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/dominican-republic for more up-to-date information on the CDC ’s recommendations.

Your student will be staying in the “Mak House” on the Makarios property, which is located in the city Montellano. The “Mak House” is also attached to an apartment where the host couple stays during the duration of the trip. Click here to see photos of the “Mak House.”

There are a variety of projects the team will work on in the Dominican Republic. It varies from year to year, but will almost always consist of some type of manual labor project, a VBS program, recreational sports camps, and community outreach.

Yes, your student needs a passport for this trip! If you don’t have one please start the process today.

There is Wi-Fi access at certain times during the day, but we encourage our students to unplug for the week to focus on God, and what He is trying to teach them.

There will be a nightly update from our team and you will also have the ability to contact one of our leaders in case of an emergency.

We’ll have two travel days, some downtime when our students first get there and a beach day at the end of the trip where our students will have fun and process all that they have learned.
