Mission Trip

We’re going back! The New Orleans Junior High Mission trip last summer was a transformative time for our students, and on July 16-20, we’ll be headed back to NOLA.

We will be partnering with Canal Street Church and their nonprofit ministry, Restoration Initiative for Culture and Community (RICC), to help bring the gospel to the community through various programs and ministries. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Any junior high student that attends STUDENTS at The Austin Stone.

Saturday, July 14 at The Austin Stone Offices at 10am.

Transportation to and from New Orleans will by the Austin Stone in 12 passenger vans.

STUDENTS will serve at different worksites from all campuses and process through the end of each day in age specific groupings. We will do our best to have your student placed with other kids from the DCOMM, Campus, or age grouping.

Exact work sites are not given out prior to arrival as the need in the city change week to week.

Lodging will be provided by Canal St. Church on the church grounds. Genders will be separated.

We are looking to recruit 6 parents to attend HHMT to help serve at worksites, cook food for the week, and be on call for emergencies. Interested in being part of the parent team? Email Brett Myles Johnston at brett@austinstone.org or Jessica Stewart at jessica@austinstone.org.

Yes, cell phones will allow our leaders to be better connected to the students and serve our primary goal of keeping them safe.
We recommend students bring an additional $40 for fun and freetime activities.

Packing List

What to bring

  • Closed toes shoes
  • Austin Stone STUDENTS T-Shirts
  • Active clothing to wear while exploring New Orleans
  • Toiletries, including sunscreen and bug spray
  • Clothes to use for hard labor at worksites
  • One set of clothes that can be ruined/li>
  • Accessories:
    sunglasses, hat, and watch
  • Sunscreen
  • Sleeping bag, blow-up mattress, or bedding sheets, blanket, pillow
  • Towel
  • Toiletries
  • Soap & Shampoo
  • Any necessary medication
  • Bible, pen, journal
  • $40 spending money for freetime fun

What not to bring

  • Pack clothes that allow you to be presentable, but not attract unnecessary, unwanted attention to yourself. Leave the following at home:
  • See through clothing
  • Spandex: workout shirts, shorts, yoga pants
  • Tops: tank tops with less than 2 finger width straps, camis, low cut, tight
  • Bottoms: too short, too tight, or flashy
  • Clothes that indicate age inappropriate activity: eg. a beer company logo
  • No alcohol, drugs, schoolwork, explosives, or weapons of any kind. These will be taken up and never returned.
